Kitchen Fun - A1 Slow Cooker Pot Roast

I am a huge foodie! Most of my life is devoted to eating new foods at new restaurants. I have the luxury of being so close to so many Chicago restaurants and believe me, I realize how lucky I am! In the recent past, I have started a new hobby of trying my own hand at cooking more. I have messed around with cooking for years but I have a tendency of sticking with the same ol' recipes and not getting creative. My new goals are to try new recipes and explore with new ingredients with a HOPE of fun! :)

One recipe that I recently decided to try was an easy one...an easy one but a dog-gon-it yummy one! On the bottle of my A1 Sauce I found a recipe for a Slow-Cooker Pot Roast made with A1 (now tell me who wouldn't love this one!). I took a stab at it and let me tell you it was amazing!

Standard ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup A1 Original Sauce

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 package (0.9 oz) onion-mushroom soup mix

  • 1 boneless beef chuck eye roast (2 lbs)

  • Red potatoes

  • Baby Carrots

  • 1 onion (thickly sliced)

I switched up my ingredients slightly because my man doesn't like onions or onion soup - Mine was just as good with a tablespoon of McCormick Minced Garlic to replace the onion and 2 tablespoons of LB Jamison's Beef Soup Base to replace the onion soup.  I placed all ingredients into the slow cooker, adding about a cup of carrots and 6 red potatoes (halved) total.

I took a new flare on my pot roast and had to incorporate some things that are still relatively new to my cooking repertoire. What are some important things that I have learned from sharing a kitchen with a Mexican man?

  • There are only corn tortillas - end of discussion. (We love El Milagro Tortillas!)

  • I don't care if sour cream and crema are the same thing, we need it to say crema. (VV Supremo Crema)

  • It needs salt. Don't question this, just salt it.

  • An ice cold refreshment is a must! (any drink will do but this time we chose Dos Equis - I was just going to make a "stay thirsty" joke but I will spare you....)   :)

Once all ingredients are in the slow cooker, bring it to boil and let cook on high for about 5-6 hours (or until the meat tears at contact). You will not regret this one my friends. If you love A1, I guarantee this will be a hit!

As a final FYI, I did add some rice to my meal also (which you can see on my plate). Have fun with this recipe though - it's totally a must try and a high 5 on the yummy scale! Enjoy and give me some feedback on your experience if you try it!
